Inside Out movie quotes give a look into the emotions of a young girl as she deals with life in a new city. The 3D animated fantasy-comedy movie was directed by Pete Docter and Ronnie del Carmen, based on a story they created, using a screenplay Docter penned with Meg LeFauve and Josh Cooley. After premiering at the 68th Cannes Film Festival, Inside Out opened in theaters on June 19, 2015.
In Inside Out, Riley (voiced by Kaitlyn Dias) and her parents (voiced by Diane Lane and Kyle MacLachlan) move from the midwest to San Francisco. This puts a strain on their emotions, including Riley's emotions of Joy (voiced by Amy Phehler), Sadness (voiced by Phyllis Smith), Fear (voiced by Bill Hader), Anger (voiced by Lewis Black) and Disgust (voiced by Mindy Kaling).
But things go from bad to worse when in Riley's Headquarters, where her emotions and memories are housed, Joy and Sadness, along with Riley's most important core memories, get lost within her long term memory. This leaves Riley's emotional state in chaos as she is not able to experience joy or sadness, only anger, fear and disgust. But Joy pulls herself together and stays positive as she and Sadness travel the long journey back to the Headquarters to reunite with the others and balance out Riley's emotions.
Inside Out is one of several critically acclaimed films opening in the summer of 2015 along with Jurassic World, Love & Mercy, Entourage and Spy.

No Bears in San Francisco
Fear: What was that? Was it was a bear?
Disgust: There are no bears in San Francisco.
Anger: I saw a really hairy guy, he looked like a bear.
Without Joy and Sadness there to balance out Riley's emotions, every sight and sound results in negative emotions. Despite there not being any bears in San Francisco, that doesn't stop Fear from wondering if there is one close.
Always a Way to Turn Things Around
Joy: You can't focus on what's going wrong. There's always a way to turn things around.
As usual, Joy brings positivity to a bad situation. She's sure that there is always a way to find a resolution to whatever may be going wrong, which she hopes will bring her joy to others.
The Foot is Down
Riley's Mom: So, how was the first day of school?
Riley: It was fine, I guess. I don't know.
Riley's Mom's Sadness: Did you guys pick up on that?
Riley's Mom's other emotions: Mmmhmm
Riley's Mom's Sadness: We're going to pick up on that but we're going to need support. Signal the husband.
Riley's Father's Anger: Uh oh, she's looking at us. What did she say?
Riley's Father's Fear: What? Oh, uh, sorry, sir, no one was listening.
Riley's Father's Anger: Is it garbage night? Uh, we left the toilet seat up. What? What is it, woman? What?
Riley's Mom's Sadness: Signal him again.
Riley's Father: Uh, so, Riley, how was school?
Riley's Mom's Sadness: You've gotta be kidding me.
Riley's Mom's Anger: For this we gave up the Brazilian helicopter pilot?
Riley: School was great, all right?
Fear: What was that? I though you said we were gonna "act casual".
Riley's Mom: Riley! Is everything okay?
Riley's Father's Fear: Sir, she just rolled her eyes at us!
Riley's Father's Anger: All right, make a show of force, I don't want to have to put the foot down.
Riley's Father's Fear: No! Not the foot.
Riley's Father: Riley, I do not like this new attitude.
Anger: Oh, I show you attitude, old man!
Fear: No! No, no, no! Breath!
Riley: What is your problem? Just leave me alone!
Riley's Father's Fear: Sir, reporting high levels of sass!
Riley's Father's Anger: Take it to DEFCON 2!
Riley's Father's Fear: DEFCON 2!
Riley's Father: I don't know where this disrespectful attitude came from.
Anger: You want a piece of this, pops?
Riley: Yeah, well, well
Riley's Riley's Father's Anger: Prepare the foot!
Riley's Father's Fear: Keys to safety position! Ready to launch on your command, sir!Riley: Just shut up!
Riley's Father's Anger: Fire!
Riley's Father: That's it! Go to your room!
Riley's Father's Fear: The foot is down. The foot is down. Woo!
Riley's Father's Anger: Good job, gentleman. That could have been a disaster.
Riley's Mother's Sadness: Well, that was a disaster.
During a conversation between Riley and her parents over dinner, emotions from the three of them all take turns reacting to what is happening. While mom's emotions try to soothe Riley, her father's emotions are distracted by sports. This makes Riley's emotions lash out with anger.
It's Broccoli
Disgust: It's broccoli!
Anger: Congratulations, San Francisco. You've ruined pizza!
When Riley learns that in her new city of San Francisco, they put her least-favorite food of broccoli on pizza, her Disgust reacts, as does her Anger.
Group Hug!
Joy: I'm Joy, this is Sadness, that's Anger, this is Disgust.
Disgust: Ugh
Joy: And that's Fear.
Fear: Ahhh! Look out!
Joy: Come on, group hug! You too, Anger.
Anger: Don't touch me.
Joy introduces the other members of Riley's emotions, Fear, Sadness, Anger and Distrust. While she remains the perky, positive one of the group, the others don't especially share her rosy outlook.
The Way Back to Headquarters
Sadness: Wait, Joy, you could get lost in there.
Joy: Think positive!
Sadness: Okay... I'm positive that you'll get lost in there! That's long term memory, an endless ward of corridors and shelves. I read about it in the manuals.
Joy: The manuals? The manuals! You read the manuals!
Sadness: Yeah
Joy: So you know the way back to the Headquarters!
Sadness: I... I guess.
Joy: You are my map. Let's go! Lead on, my map! Show me where we're going.
Sadness: Okay, only, I'm too sad to walk. Just give me a few hours.
Joy: Which way, left?
Sadness: Right, no, I mean go left. Left is right like correct.
Joy: Okay.
Sadness: This actually feels kind of nice.
Joy: Okay, here we go! We'll be back to Headquarters before morning! This is easy! This is working!
Joy and Sadness get lost in Riley's long term memory, a massive place with corridors and shelves. But when Joy realizes that Sadness may know the way out, she is excited, as always.
I Wanted to Maybe Hold One
Sadness: I wanted to maybe hold one.
Joy: What happened? Sadness?
Anger: She did something to the memory!
Fear: Change it back, Joy!
Joy: I'm trying!
Sadness: Joy, no, let go!
Anger: The core memories! Can I say that curse word now?
Looking to hold a happy memory, Sadness and Joy end up with that memory up in a tube which sends them into the long term memory storage. This is not good as to have balanced emotions, all five must remain in the Headquarters.
First Day of School
Joy: First day of school, very, very exciting! I was up late last night figuring out a new plan. Here it is. Fear, I need a list of all of the possible negative outcomes on the first day at a new school.
Fear: Way ahead of you there. Does anyone know how to spell meteor?
Joy: Disgust, make sure Riley stands out today but also blends in.
Disgust: When I'm through, Riley will look so good, the other kids will look at their own outfits and barf.
Joy: Joy? Yes, Joy. You'll be in charge of the console, keeping Riley happy all day long and may I add I love your dress. It's adorable. Oh, this old thing. Thank you so much! I love the way it twirls. Train of thought, right on schedule! Anger, unload the day dreams. I ordered extra in case things get slow in class.
Anger: Might come in handy, if this school is full of useless classes, which it probably will be.
Joy: Oh, Sadness, I have a super important job just for you.
Sadness: Really?
Joy: Mmmhmm, follow me. And there, perfect. This is the circle of sadness. Your job is to make sure that all the sadness stays inside of it.
As Riley approaches her first day of school in a new town, Joy begins the preparation to make the day wonderful. She has jobs for all of the other emotions, which, if followed, will make that awkward day great.
