Worst Title Lines
There’s nothing worse than when you’re watching a movie and an actor comes along to deliver a titular line, i.e. the title of the film. When a character says the film’s title in dialogue it not only takes the viewing audience out of the immersive experience of watching a film, but it also shows you how lazy the screenwriter was while writing the movie. Sometimes films can drop eponymous lines and it’s fine. In movies like Independence Day and Groundhog Day, using titles in dialogue actually works really well. And sometimes you just can’t avoid giving a title line. In the film Halloween, at some point someone is going to have to say what holiday falls on October 31st. Unfortunately, there are a whole slew of movies out there that make no bones about using titular lines and this list ranks the worst of them.

It might surprise you that some really great movies use titles in their dialogue. Films like Blade Runner and Chinatown perform the graceless title drop in their otherwise flawless pictures. But for the most part, the movies that make gratuitous use of dropping an eponymous line or two aren’t that great (or they’re geared toward children).

Keep an eye open for your favorite films on this list of the worst eponymous lines in film history and be sure to vote up the films that make the most flagrant use of the eponymous line. Or - if you actually like some of the title lines in these films - tell everyone about it in the comments.

Blade Runner
It's hard to tear down a movie with some of the best monologues ever written, but who thought it was a good idea to refer to Decker as a blade runner? And why did it have to sound so racist?
Chasing Amy
Chasing Amy was supposed to be Kevin Smith's big dramatic break, but it feels more like an embarrassing '90s time capsule than a movie. Nothing is more embarrassing than Silent Bob's speech towards the end of the film where he over dramatizes screwing up a relationship while simultaneously giving a goateed Ben Affleck advice.
Cool Runnings
The titular line of Cool Runnings is said every time the Jamaican bobsled team competes. The weird thing is, the guys don't need to say "cool runnings." In fact, ending their chant with "it's bobsled time" makes WAY more sense than saying the name of the film.
Gone Baby Gone
You can almost feel the high fives that the crew gave themselves when they finished filming this scene. Gone Baby Gone proves that a prestige movie can still have garbage dialogue.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
Woof. What a way to end a scene. The only thing that could have made this scene worse is if Elrond looked into the camera and winked at the audience.
Con Air
Despite John Malcovich's dedication to his role in the incredi-bad film Con Air, not even his offbeat line reading can change how cringe-worthy it is when he says the name of the movie while taking over the airplane.
Guardians of the Galaxy
The titular line in Guardians of the Galaxy actually happens two times in a row at the end of the beloved Marvel movie. As fun as this movie is, nothing takes the audience out of the movie more than saying the title.
We're Some Kind of Suicide Squad
Not only does Will Smith refer to his team as "some kind of suicide squad" about a minute and 40 seconds into the trailer that blew up Comic-Con, but another character reminds the viewers that the characters are "bad guys." How dumb does DC think we are?
You're All Astronauts on Some Kinda Star Trek
Just in case you couldn't tell from the crushing boredom, James Cromwell is here to remind you that you're watching a Star Trek movie.
You Two Characters Are Going to Top Gun
The line, "you two characters are going to Top Gun" couldn't be worse unless it was, "you two fictional characters who aren't real who are in a movie called Top Gun, you're going to be furthering the action of this scene by finding out that you're attending a school that's oddly also called Top Gun."
